Quantity is the whole game

Spark works by holding your water at a chemistry algae cannot establish in. That effect depends entirely on concentration. At the right dose it holds for up to a year. Below it, the water drifts back and the product gets blamed for something the quantity caused.

Algae stops establishing

Not killed after it appears — prevented from taking hold in the first place. That is the difference between treating and conditioning.

pH stops climbing

Spark holds a low ceiling on pH, sometimes as low as 7.5. The weekly chase after rising pH ends.

Chlorine goes further

Hold around 1 ppm and let Spark do the rest. Users typically report chlorine and acid costs falling substantially.

Honest Limits

When Spark is the wrong product

Spark stays dissolved in the water, so anything that removes water removes Spark. If your pool overflows to drain continuously, or is topped up with large volumes of fresh water every day, it will not hold and you should not buy it. Pools with heavy phosphate or nitrate loading may need a phosphate remover or a higher chlorine residual alongside it. Hot spring water is not suitable. We would rather tell you this now than refund you later.

Losing water to splash-out or backwashing is normal and manageable — run the calculator again on the volume you replaced and top up proportionally.
